  • Bass Coast Farm - Grass fed, antibiotic free Black Angus beef, olives, eggs,
110 Trew Road, Woolamai, VIC 3995. Phone: 0409 252 373. Email: sylvia@basscoastfarm.com. Open: See their website. At Bass Coast Farm we work hard to raise the best beef possible, beef that are both healthy and flavoursome to eat. We approach this goal in 3 ways, feeding only natural pasture, providing a quiet stress-free environment and raising a select breed of cattle. We are pleased to announce that we have been MSA graded in the top 5% of Australian beef. This is a target we have worked hard to achieve and the results are in the taste and tenderness of our beef. We strive to produce pastures with a high quality mix of grasses and legumes for our cattle to graze. This mix provides a healthy diet for the livestock, and also a natural way to maintain a balance of nutrients in the soil. We maintain a low stress environment. We interact with the cattle in ways to ensure they are comfortable with us. As a result, the livestock are easily moved from pasture to pasture with little more than a call from the newly opened gate. This keeps our cattle content and producing the best beef possible. Our Meat Standards Australia graded Angus beef is the premium beef on the market having received MSA grading in the top 5% of graded beef in Australia. Angus cattle are noted for their marbled meat, making it juicy, tender and full of flavour. Our Angus cattle are finished on lush pasture grasses which produces an excellent 'marbled' beef that is in great demand due to its distinctive flavour and renowned eating quality. For those who insist on the very best, only natural pasture-fed Angus beef will do. So, when you think about that juicy steak, fall off the fork tender beef roast, or the best hamburger you will put your hands around, we hope you will think about Bass Coast Farm Angus beef.We have free range chickens in caravans so you can also take some fresh eggs home too. We have 750 hens foraging and scratching around in our olive grove or in paddocks vacated by our Angus cattle. We use the term "pastured free range eggs" to differentiate ourselves from "free range" which we feel has been hijacked by the supermarkets. Free range can mean stocking densities of 10,000 hens/hectare and we do not believe that is what our customers understand as free range. So when you see "pastured" eggs you can be assured that our hens have access to pasture 360 days per year. Click here for a link to our Facebook page. Olives from late April and May. We have 800 olive trees around 16 years old in a grove at Woolamai where our chickens in their caravans spend the summer with superb protection from the summer sun and heat. We are excited to have our first crop of table olives and our very own olive oil in 2019. We have four varieties of olives being Kalamata, Picual, Manzanillo and Corregiola. Come to our farm to collect some organic olives to take home and cure in a salt brine or dried in salt as you wish. We will have the recipe for you to follow. You can buy your salt and container on the day. Entry includes 3kg of olives that you've handpicked. No charge for children.

Knowing where your food comes from, and how it is grown, is becoming so important for those who are interested in fuelling their body with the right food. Grass fed beef and pasture raised pork provide higher levels of healthy minerals and good fats than their grain fed, indoor-raised counterparts. Grass fed beef contains an equal amount of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. This balance is vital for our health and plays a key role in the prevention of widespread western illnesses such as heart disease, arthritis and cancer. Plus, animals raised outside avoid long periods of stress as they can express their natural instincts and relax freely in an open and healthy environment. They are also much less likely to contract diseases and therefore do not require medical treatments throughout their lives. While you may find berries in your local supermarket at any time of year, here at Ravens Creek we think it is so important to eat locally and seasonally. Summer is the natural time of year for healthy berry plants to produce fruit. So it is the best time to enjoy them fresh, make them into jams and sauces or simply throw containers in the freezer to pull out for a treat in winter!
