Updates for November 2024
Higher costs of production due to higher fuel and fertilizer costs is driving some meat producers out of business.

Sub Edge Farm - Chicken (free range), Turkey, Beef,
Pork, No hormones used, No antibiotics used, 100% Grass fed
(includes finishing), Farm dinners, Eggs, sausage, Bacon (pork),
Farm market with fruits and vegetables
199 Town Farm Rd,
Farmington, Connecticut, CT 06032. Email:
hello@subedgefarm.com. Open: Seasonal farm shop (usually
spring to fall), open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm.
Directions: See their website for directions.
Click here for a map and directions. Payment: Cash, Debit
cards, Visa/MasterCard . Sub Edge Farm offers humanely raise
heritage breed pigs, pasture raised broilers, layer hens and
100% grass-fed beef (from their website). Sometimes they have
their own honey for sale. They are relatively small and have
limited quantities so it's best to email ahead of time. They
also offer 100 shares of spring - fall CSA of various sizes for
small, med or large families. Egg shares as well as a beer,
bread and cheese option can be added to the farm CSA. Winter
CSAs avail Dec - Feb. They host farm dinners. They also have
classes (such as how to grow your own mushrooms) as well as
educational programs/tours for children (like learning about the
animals and pollinators). In their farm shop along with the
produce and some meats you might also find their own honey and
eggs. They also have maple syrup, milk, bread, cheese, kimchee
from other local farms/vendors.They are small and family run
(mom can often be found in the farm shop with her baby behind
the counter) and don't have a business phone in the shop so
you'll have to email them, and they will get back to you soon as
promised. They are also NOFA New York Certified Organic, LLC.
You can also order some meats online and arrange for pick up. I
have seen the chickens in an outdoor pen with room to roam, but
I'm not sure if this meets the criteria for 'free range,' if
there is a criteria at all! And I don't know if their honey is
produced on site. If you email them, they will be happy to give
you more info.
